Custom Fine Art Print on Premium Media - Gaines’ southern flank terreplein, showing a center-pintle barbette carriage mount in the foreground. A row of front-pintle mounts runs along the remainder of the terreplein. An original 32-pounder seacoast cannon sits on its reproduction wooden carriage on Bastion No. 4, at the far end of the terreplein. The serpentine wall in front of the barbette mounts, along with the taller wall beyond, when reinforced with stacks of sandbags, provided the gun crews with a degree of protection from in-coming fire.
