Custom Fine Art Print on Premium Media - Batteries Thomas and Schenck at Fort Morgan. Thomas mounted two 4.7” Rapid Fire guns, each of them capable of firing a 45 pound projectile six miles, Thomas proved to be extremely vulnerable to enemy fire. Eventually, one of Thomas’ gun emplacements was converted into a Range Finding Station for the adjacent Battery Schenck. At first, Schenck mounted two Model 1898 15-pounder Rapid Fire guns. A third position was added to the battery mounting a Model 1902 15 pounder Rapid-Fire gun..
