Custom Fine Art Print on Premium Media - These large granite slabs stacked outside of the Bastion A magazine wall at Fort Pickens were a means of protecting the magazine from incoming cannon fire. Sandbags would be stacked on top of and in front of these stone beams. It was thought that this combination would prevent cannon projectiles from penetrating the magazine walls. The large pipe is part of a drainage system installed later in Pickens’ life.
