The rifle is in its firing position.This rifle was recovered from the Philippines following World War II in cooperation with the Smithsonian Institution. It was installed in Battery Cooper so that visitors to the Fort Pickens branch of Gulf Islands National Seashore might understand how these batteries functioned. Battery Cooper is located just east of Fort Pickens, near the southern shore of Santa Rosa Island.
